Dr Peter Cowen

A former Councillor of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and Chairman of its Victorian chapter, Practice Leader Dr Peter Cowen is a Bayside-based dermatologist with 30 years experience across major hospitals and private practice.
Dr Cowen undertook his dermatological training at the Royal Melbourne and Prince Henry’s hospitals and the Queen Victoria Medical Centre and gained his formal medical and dermatology qualifications from Monash University in Melbourne.
He completed post-graduate training in Oxford and Durham in the United Kingdom and has since authored more than 30 articles in medical journals.
Having led twenty clinical trials on topics including psoriasis, male pattern hair loss, fungal skin infections, acne and non-surgical skin cancer treatment, Dr Cowen is regarded as a leader in his field.
Dr Sarah McDonald
B.BIOMEDSC, MBBS (HONS), FACD
Dr McDonald has previously worked in private practice in Sydney and Dubbo prior to relocating to Melbourne in 2018. She is trained in both medical and surgical dermatology and has particular interests in early skin cancer detection and management, eczema, psoriasis, excessive sweating, acne and rosacea.
Having graduated in Medicine with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2008, Dr McDonald completed specialist Dermatology training in Sydney and Newcastle during which time she was awarded the President's medal in Pharmacology. Upon completion of her training she received an international scholarship from the American Academy of Dermatology for her examination results. She is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
In addition to private practice, Dr McDonald also works at Monash Hospital where she is involved in registrar training.
Dr Francis Lai
MBBS (HONS), FACD
Dr Francis Lai is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. He completed his dermatology training in tertiary adult and paediatric Melbourne hospitals. During his training, Dr Lai was awarded a scholarship to St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London.
Dr Lai achieved the highest mark in Australia in his final dermatology examinations and was awarded the Australasian College of Dermatologists Travelling Fellowship Award as well as the Ken Paver Medal for Medical Dermatology. He also won the Harvey Rotstein award for his collegiality, integrity and dedication to patient care.
Dr Lai has a keen interest in academic research and has published in multiple journals including The Lancet. In 2023, Dr Lai was one of 8 dermatologists in the world to be awarded the International Psoriasis Council fellowship.
In addition to private practice, Dr Lai works at Monash Hospital and the Skin Health Institute where he is involved in registrar training.
Dr Rachael Davenport
MBBS, FACD
Dr Rachael Davenport is a specialist dermatologist and a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD).
Dr Davenport completed her dermatology specialty training at St Vincent’s Hospital, The Alfred Hospital, The Austin Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital. She has also worked in multidisciplinary melanoma clinics at the Victorian Melanoma Service.
Dr Davenport is an expert in both adult and paediatric dermatology. She is interested in all aspects of dermatology including early skin cancer detection and management, eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, urticaria, hyperhidrosis, vulval dermatology and autoimmune connective tissue disorders.
Dr Davenport holds public hospital appointments as a consultant dermatologist at St Vincent’s Hospital, The Northern Hospital, The Royal Hobart Hospital and The Skin Health Institute where she is involved in teaching dermatology trainees and students.
